There’s nothing better than fulfilling your own potential, and as Tom Bilyeu, the founder of QuestNutrition, says that human potential is nearly limitless.Nonetheless, having unlimited potential is not the same as doing the work to fulfill it. And at some point in our lives, things might not go the way we want it to be (wow, I'm so wise!). So, in order to help you to become the best version of yourself, here are 4 practical tips that you can do to overcome your past and be the best version of yourself:

1. Practice forgiveness

Every time before you go to the bed, make sure that you let go of your anger and all of your negative feelings. Everybody makes mistakes, and so do you. Holding anger for long will not only harm your mental health but also your physical health. In a new study by the Journal of Health Psychology, people who are more forgiving tend to live longer and are much happier. Regardless of how bad the situation is, or how painful your is, there is just no point that you should hold your anger for any longer. If you want to be the best version of yourself, master yourself by forgiving people and let go of the past.

2. Read more books

There’s nothing better than surrounding yourself with those who are smarter and more successful than you. However, sometimes, these people are no longer alive or don’t have time for you. If you want to study mental health and emotional intelligence, then the best person you could go to might be Daniel Goleman, the pioneer and best-selling author of Emotional Intelligence. However, what is the chance that Daniel Goleman would want to spend time and teach you about the subject with you in person? Very slim. At the end of the day, we all have lives to worry about, and there’s a reason to why he wrote his book: to reach and educate more people easily. And that’s why you should spend some of your money on books every month in order to be the best version of yourself. Remember, always be curious and a learning machine.

3. Meditate

In a study conducted by U.S. National Library of Medicine, meditation could actually relieve stress, double your performance, and reduce your blood pressure. Vishen Lakhiani, the founder of MindValley, says that he meditates twice a day for 15 minutes in order to visualize his goals. One best way to start meditating is to use a free meditation app called Omvana that is available in the app store or google play if you happen to be using Android. Thus, start meditating daily, and you will see the difference!

4. Sleep more

This last tip might be a little bit controversial because there are lots of other success gurus who preach their 16-hour a day schedule, and they might be right. Nonetheless, sleeping 8 hours every night is actually more important than you think: you make better decisions and be more productive. More than 60% of the population in the United States sleep less than what their body needs and almost half of them are sleep deprived. To further emphasize this point, just think of it this way: you could get as much done as you work 16 hours a day by thinking clearly and be super productive, provided that you get high-quality sleep every single day. Arianna Huffington was once collapsed due to her severe sleep deprivation in the early days of building her media empire “The Huffington Post”, and today you will always see her preaching about how important getting a good night sleep is. So, forget all these myths about working 16 hours a day, and instead, get a good cup of tea while you schedule your day the night before and then get a good 8-hour sleep!
